Trump Issues Ultimatum to Hamas Over Hostages as US Engages in Direct Talks

President Donald Trump issued a stark warning to Hamas, demanding the immediate release of all hostages held in Gaza, or face severe consequences. His statement came shortly after the White House confirmed that the US is engaging in direct talks with the militant group for the first time since Hamas was designated a Foreign Terrorist Organization by the US in 1997.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump declared, “Release all of the hostages now, not later, and immediately return all of the dead bodies of the people you murdered, or it is OVER for you.” Trump also emphasized that he was sending Israel everything it needed to “finish the job,” adding, “Not a single Hamas member will be safe if you don’t do as I say.” The message was issued shortly after Trump met with eight freed hostages at the White House, further intensifying the political and diplomatic pressure on Hamas.

The US engagement with Hamas is part of a broader effort to secure the release of hostages, including American citizens, and push for a ceasefire in the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. It marks a significant shift in US policy, which had long avoided direct talks with groups designated as terrorist organizations.

Trump’s statement was clear and forceful, urging Hamas to release hostages immediately, or face grave repercussions. His rhetoric reflects his hardline stance on the issue and his commitment to securing the safe return of hostages. Trump also directly addressed the people of Gaza, saying, “A beautiful future awaits, but not if you hold hostages. If you do, you are DEAD! Make a SMART decision. RELEASE THE HOSTAGES NOW, OR THERE WILL BE HELL TO PAY LATER!”

The US has confirmed that special envoy Adam Boehler, nominated by Trump for hostage affairs, led the direct talks with Hamas in Doha, Qatar, aimed at negotiating the release of US hostages and potentially finding a way to end the conflict. The talks, which took place in recent weeks, did not make significant progress but have paved the way for further discussions.

Hamas has warned that Trump’s comments could complicate the situation regarding the ceasefire and hostage negotiations. Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem claimed that Trump’s remarks could undermine the ongoing negotiations and embolden Israel to avoid implementing any agreements.

The White House has made it clear that the US is engaging in these talks in the interest of securing the release of hostages and ensuring the safety of American citizens. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that President Trump had authorized his envoys to negotiate with anyone in order to protect American interests.

Although the talks have not yet yielded tangible results, they remain an important step in efforts to end the war and resolve the hostages’ plight.
