DOPAMINE AS THE REWARD CENTER.
The modern era of technological advancement is one of the hardest to live in, with all technology companies competing for attention from their users, it is all becoming quite clear that Technology is doing much harm than good to the world.
Take for example, I spend 10 hours a day on my screen, watching tv, on my laptop. Having slept for a minimum of 8 hours, that leaves me with 6 hours to finish my day, I have not done anything constructive and meaningful as I began the day.
The Dangers of social media are beyond incomprehensible, spending time of Instagram reels, watching TikTok videos, YouTube shorts and Facebook videos has an effect on the Dopamine release on the brain. One minute you are watching the funniest video you could ever come across, immediately after a swipe downwards you find the saddest thing and in your pursuit of finding joy you keep scrolling while the algorithms keep track of what you like and don’t like on your feed.
Dopamine is a neurotransmitter made in your brain. It plays a role as a “reward center” and in many body functions, including memory, movement, motivation, mood, attention and more. High or low dopamine levels are associated with diseases including Parkinson’s disease, restless legs syndrome and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Most of us suffer from ADHD as we seek to find new things to grab our attention and as we seek to make us the focal point of our attention.
SCREEN TIME.
Using social media is not a problem the problem is abusing social media and being addicted to your mobile phones, by reducing your screen time by 50% as you keep adjusting to your most preferable screen time will be of help to yourself. We Fail to admit to ourselves that we are enemies of our own progress.
A minimum of 4 hours on our screen is seen as a start as we work to keep us from being used by social media but instead of us controlling social media. The feeling of being feed with the latest news is one of the issues that cause stress why you might ask? As you feed on the latest news, no more news will be left for you to read and see, you then result into a state of panic, and we do not know what to do with our time.
