Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs Accused of Rape in Civil Lawsuit Filed by Anonymous Plaintiff
US rapper Jay-Z, also known as Shawn Carter, has publicly denied allegations in a civil lawsuit claiming he, along with Sean “Diddy” Combs, drugged and raped a 13-year-old girl at a party following the MTV Video Music Awards in 2000. The amended lawsuit, which includes Jay-Z as a defendant, was filed by an anonymous plaintiff identified as “Jane Doe” who claims she was assaulted during the event in New York.
The plaintiff alleges that after feeling woozy from a drink offered to her at the party, she wandered into a bedroom where she was confronted by both Jay-Z and Combs. According to the lawsuit, the alleged assault began with Jay-Z. Following him, Combs is accused of also raping her before she managed to escape. The party reportedly featured numerous celebrities and rampant drug use.
In statements responding to the allegations, Jay-Z called the claims “heinous” and expressed disbelief that they had been filed as a civil lawsuit rather than a criminal one. “Whomever would commit such a crime against a minor should be locked away,” he stated, urging the plaintiff to file a criminal complaint.
Jay-Z suggested that the lawsuit was motivated by a “blackmail attempt” made by the plaintiff’s attorney, Tony Buzbee. He stated that he would not settle and described his lawyer receiving a “demand letter” from Buzbee that he interpreted as an attempt to extort money in light of the serious allegations. “No sir, it had the opposite effect! It made me want to expose you for the fraud you are,” he added.
The legal action follows previous accusations against Combs, who has been indicted on charges related to sex trafficking and has denied all allegations of wrongdoing. Combs, whose legal representatives labeled the lawsuit a “shameless publicity stunt,” is facing a slew of other civil lawsuits, with over thirty filed against him.
Buzbee, representing the plaintiff, characterized the situation as a serious matter and indicated that they would pursue justice in court. He also criticized both Jay-Z and Combs for their response, stating that his client never sought monetary compensation but rather aimed for mediation to resolve the matter.
The lawsuit has drawn significant media attention, raising concerns for Jay-Z and his family, especially regarding the impact on his children. “My only heartbreak is for my family,” he wrote, expressing concern over how the allegations would affect his children amid ongoing public scrutiny.
