FA Cup Fifth Round Draw Revealed
Former England and Arsenal players Alex Scott and Theo Walcott did the honors during the draw for the Emirates FA Cup fifth round. The draw set the stage for exciting encounters in the last 16 of the competition, with £225,000 in prize money up for grabs for the victorious clubs.
Manchester City, the reigning English champions, will host Championship strugglers Plymouth Argyle in the fifth round. Plymouth earned their place after a victory over Premier League leaders Liverpool, making their tie against City a significant reward for their impressive underdog performance.
Manchester United, the holders of the FA Cup, will face Fulham in a match that will see them look to extend their unbeaten run against the Cottagers. Fulham will be hoping it’s third time lucky this season after two narrow 1-0 defeats to United in Premier League encounters.
Elsewhere, EFL Cup finalists Newcastle United will welcome Brighton & Hove Albion to St James’ Park. The Magpies will be keen to avenge a 1-0 loss to Brighton from earlier in the season. AFC Bournemouth, who defeated Everton 2-0 in the fourth round, will take on Wolverhampton Wanderers, as they aim to reach the quarter-finals for only the third time in their history.
There could be a fourth all-Premier League tie if Nottingham Forest, who will face Exeter City on Tuesday, win their fourth-round match. The reward for the winners would be a home match against Ipswich Town.
Plymouth’s impressive 1-0 victory over Liverpool in the previous round earned them a prestigious trip to Manchester City. Meanwhile, City overcame Leyton Orient 2-1 in a close encounter to book their place in the fifth round.
