Erling Haaland Commits Long-Term Future to Manchester City with Historic Contract Extension
Erling Haaland has cemented his commitment to Manchester City by signing a remarkable new contract that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2034. The 24-year-old striker, who joined the Premier League champions from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2022, has enjoyed an extraordinary two-and-a-half seasons with the club, becoming one of the most prolific goal scorers in world football.
Since arriving in Manchester, Haaland has been pivotal in City’s success, playing a key role in their historic treble-winning campaign in the 2022-2023 season, which saw them secure the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League. The Norwegian international netted an incredible 52 goals across all competitions in his first season, setting a new Premier League record for the most goals in a single campaign with 36, also winning the Premier League Golden Boot.
The new contract extension, which replaces his previous deal set to expire in 2027, sees Haaland commit to the club for an additional seven years. This new agreement will see him stay at Manchester City until he is 33, removing any release clauses that were in his prior contract. While the exact figures of the deal are not disclosed, sources have reported that it is among the most lucrative sporting contracts in history, reflecting Haaland’s immense value to the club.
Haaland’s incredible goal-scoring ability has continued into the current season, as he has already notched 21 goals across all competitions, including 16 in the Premier League. Since his move to City, Haaland has scored a staggering 111 goals in 126 appearances, further solidifying his status as one of the world’s finest strikers. He has already earned a host of individual honors, including the PFA Player of the Year, Premier League Player of the Year, and Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year awards, all of which reflect his immense contribution to City’s success.
Despite frequent speculation linking Haaland with a move to La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona, the forward has expressed his happiness in Manchester and his desire to continue developing under the guidance of manager Pep Guardiola. Haaland’s excellent relationship with Guardiola and the rest of the coaching staff, as well as his bond with teammates and the club’s hierarchy, has been a key factor in his decision to extend his stay at the Etihad.
Reflecting on his new contract, Haaland told the Manchester City website: “I am really happy to have signed my new contract and to be able to look forward to spending even more time at this great club. Manchester City is a special club, full of fantastic people with amazing supporters, and it’s the type of environment that helps bring the best out of everybody.”
He continued, “I also want to thank Pep, his coaching staff, my teammates, and everyone at the club as they have all helped me so much in the past couple of years. They have made this such a special place to be, and now I am City no matter what. I want to keep developing, keep working to get better, and look to do my best to try and help us achieve more success going forward.”
City’s Director of Football, Txiki Begiristain, expressed his delight at Haaland’s commitment: “Everyone at the club is absolutely delighted that Erling has signed his new contract. The fact he is signed for so long demonstrates our commitment to him as a player, and his love of this club. He has made an incredible impact already in his time here, and his amazing numbers and records speak for themselves.”
With Haaland’s new deal in place, City are also focused on strengthening their squad, with the club reportedly in talks to sign new players, including Eintracht Frankfurt’s Omar Marmoush, and defenders Abdukodir Khusanov from Lens and Vitor Reis from Palmeiras.
The contract extension also signals a move away from rumors that had linked Haaland to potential transfers to La Liga, with his new deal ensuring that he remains one of the key figures at Manchester City for the foreseeable future. Haaland’s agent, Rafaela Pimenta, has previously indicated that the Norwegian could amass a fortune during his career, with some estimates suggesting he could earn over €1 billion in wages, endorsements, and other financial considerations.
