Barcelona Extend Unbeaten Streak with Convincing 3-0 Win Over Osasuna
Barcelona eased to a dominant 3-0 victory over Osasuna at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys on Thursday, extending their unbeaten run in all competitions to 19 games and moving three points clear of rivals Real Madrid at the top of LaLiga.
Despite resting key forwards Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha, Barça raced into an early lead, with Ferran Torres opening the scoring in the 11th minute. The Spanish forward capitalized on a precise Alejandro Balde cross, finishing first-time from close range in a well-worked team goal.
The home side doubled their advantage just ten minutes later through Dani Olmo, who won a penalty after being brought down by Osasuna goalkeeper Sergio Herrera. Although Herrera initially saved Olmo’s spot-kick, the referee ordered a retake due to an Osasuna player encroaching into the box. Olmo made no mistake the second time, drilling his effort low to the goalkeeper’s right.
Barcelona remained in control for the rest of the match, dominating possession and creating multiple chances. Teenage sensation Lamine Yamal was particularly impressive, constantly threatening down the flanks. Torres nearly added another before halftime when his free-kick rattled the crossbar.
Lewandowski, who was introduced in the second half, sealed the victory in the 77th minute, heading home a well-placed cross from substitute Fermín López to register his 23rd goal of the season. Osasuna failed to record a single shot on target throughout the game, underlining Barcelona’s defensive solidity.
The match had been postponed from its original date of March 8 following the passing of the club’s doctor, Carles Minarro Garcia. Despite a heavily rotated squad, Barça showed no signs of struggle, comfortably securing their sixth consecutive win.
Jules Koundé voiced his frustration over the timing of the fixture, criticizing the scheduling that forced players to return to action just days after international duty. “We play too many games, and it’s disrespectful not just to us but to Osasuna as well. We’re not machines we need proper rest to perform at our best,” Koundé remarked post-match.
With the victory, Barcelona now sit at 63 points from 28 games, ahead of Real Madrid (60) and Atletico Madrid (56), with just ten matches remaining in the title race. Osasuna, meanwhile, remain in 14th place.
Looking ahead, Barcelona faces a demanding run of fixtures across LaLiga, the Copa del Rey, and the Champions League, with seven matches scheduled in the next 20 days. Hansi Flick will hope his side can maintain their momentum as they aim for multiple trophies this season.
